The seminar was opened by Raima Shirinova, Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations, who highlighted the steady development of cooperation with the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet international academic network and its growing contribution to strengthening scientific and educational partnerships.
During her remarks, proposals were put forward to expand joint research initiatives, develop international grant projects, and further enhance academic mobility programmes.
In the course of the seminar, Professor Josef Strobl delivered a presentation on the role of geospatial technologies and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in monitoring and evaluating Sustainable Development Goal indicators. He also provided a comprehensive overview of international experience and projects being implemented within the framework of the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet network.
Particular attention was given to the significance of cooperation between the Academy and the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet network in advancing international scientific collaboration. Professor Strobl noted that the Academy’s designation as an official partner institution of the EPU network for 2026 and the awarding of the corresponding certificate represent an important milestone in strengthening international academic and research cooperation.
For reference, Eurasia-Pacific Uninet (EPU) is an international academic platform operating with the support of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research. The network promotes scientific cooperation and academic exchange among universities, research institutions, and scholars across Europe and Asia.
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants exchanged views on prospects for implementing joint research projects, expanding academic mobility programmes, and further advancing scientific and international cooperation.
